Safety concerns have been raised in Bonnyrigg, where community representatives fear an ongoing traffic issue is “an accident waiting to happen.”

Worries, highlighted by Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council, centre on a stretch of the B704 at Hillhead, where a bus stop is situated just yards from a traffic island at the centre of what is a busy road.

A police spokesman said: “In general, traffic islands display a ‘keep left arrow’ and it is an offence for motorists to pass on the right hand side if this is displayed.”
