Up to 400 full and part-time jobs will be created when Asda opens its first superstore in Midlothian.
The company bought land on the A701, next to IKEA, last month and expects its 45,000 sq ft store to be open this autumn.
There has been mixed reaction to the news, with local politicians welcoming the Loanhead job opportunities.
The Greens, however, fear it is another nail in the coffin for the vibrancy of town centres.
Asda’s new development will offer a range of goods, a cafe and petrol filling station. There will be around 450 car parking spaces.
