Penicuik house prices have outperformed those in every other Scottish town over the past 10 years.
The average price soared by 179 per cent – from £61,824 in 2000 to £172,476 in 2010.
This beats the likes of Irvine (172 per cent), Peterhead (171 per cent), Alloa (146 per cent) and Elgin (142 per cent). Dalkeith saw an 89 per cent rise – from £87,269 to £164,617.
The latest figures from the Bank of Scotland show that house prices in Scotland have increased by 83 per cent over the past decade.
