A Temple woman’s candle making business is up for a Stylist Magazine Award, which includes a £20,000 prize to help a company grow.

Kerrylyn Bell (43) has been nominated for her company Can To Candle’s wax botanical bar, with the winner announced on November 12.

She said: “They are looking for a new innovative product that can be scaled up and it has to be environmentally friendly. I’m really pleased to be nominated, it’s quite a prestigious award. And the prize money is to go towards advertising, scaling up your business and marketing it.

“The shortlist is quite big at the moment, with 90 nominations, I’m the only Scottish one. So the competition is pretty tight but I fancy my chances because of the product. The whole thing is great for business.”

Kerrylyn described her wax botanical bar, she said:“You use it in burners, break off a chunk and put it in a burner. It’s a soy wax. I use dry botanicals with fragrance oil and lavender and rose essential oils. I’m proud of it.”

Kerryln started Can to Candle a year and a half ago and also runs candle making workshops.

She said: “ I enjoy creating products and the workshops.

“It’s great working for myself. I used to be an interior designer and then I had three kids. So now I’m a candle maker. I just thought ‘I could do that’ and the business has continued to grow ever since.”

Can to Candle products are stored at the Popping Up shop in Stockbridge, Edinburgh.
