Changes to the Blue Badge scheme for disabled people, which came into effect on January 1, will only affect current badge holders when their badge expires and needs to be renewed, or when it needs to be replaced because it has been lost or stolen.
Blue Badges are valid for three years and some badge holders in Midlothian need not reapply using the new system until December 2014.
Councillor Wilma Chalmers, cabinet member with responsibility for the Blue Badge Scheme in Midlothian, said: “We just want to reassure local people that just because there’s a new system, it doesn’t mean disabled persons with a valid Blue Badge need to change their badge immediately.
“Their current badge is perfectly valid and will remain so until its expiry date, which can be three years away.”
