A LEADING homelessness charity has praised Midlothian Council for its reduction in evictions last year.
Shelter Scotland’s annual analysis saw the council record 15 evictions in 2010/11 – a reduction of 12 per cent.
Midlothian has now witnessed a 75 per cent reduction in evictions in the last four years. The Scottish average is 46 per cent.
Shelter Scotland director Graeme Brown said: “It’s great news that evictions in Midlothian are down by 12 per cent, and that over the last four years they have been cut by 75 per cent. We have been campaigning to make eviction the last resort for social landlords and these figures show the council is responding to our concerns. We congratulate Midlothian Council for the major progress it has made in reducing evictions.”
