Locals get involved in the Gorebridge petition against closing facilites.

A GOREBRIDGE woman has launched a petition after the community was left reeling at news that eight local amenities could be lost under plans for the replacement Newbattle High School.

As revealed in last week’s Advertiser, consultation in Mayfield, Newtongrange and Gorebridge will take place over the possible centralisation of leisure and library services to the new school. A petition has already been launched in Newtongrange.

Tracy Cranston (32), is a full-time mum of four boys aged 10, five, three and two. She started her petition after attending last week’s council debate and already has nearly 500 signatures online with hundreds more expected from physical copies of the petition.

She said: “I was just a bit fed-up that Gorebridge was getting emptied and left out. When the new school is getting built so far away from here, then our community isn’t getting the benefit from it.”
