Efforts to merge neighbouring community councils appear to have failed after 25 per cent of one group said they would rather resign.
Despite efforts to raise its profile in recent years, membership of Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council has fallen to the extent that chairman Ian Baxter believes it would now be prudent to join forces with Poltonhall District Community Council.
In a recent letter to Poltonhall chairman Keith Fuller, Mr Baxter explained that his group of 10 members was five short of a full complement.
He added: “We believe the increased membership of a combined community council would lead to a greater profile in the community, as well as achieving an enhanced perception of legitimacy.”
