Community pays tribute to soldiers

MIDLOTHIAN’s army community has been stunned by the death of three soldiers, who were killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

Flags at Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik have flown at half mast following the tragic aftermath of last week’s incident.

Corporal William Thomas Savage and Fusilier Samuel Flint, both from The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS), and Private Robert Murray Hetherington from 51st Highland, 7th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (7 SCOTS) were killed in Helmand Province.

The soldiers’ deaths have been felt acutely around Glencorse and Penicuik, where many military families have their homes.
