When Newtongrange Scout Group decided it was about time they insulated their scout hall loft, they thought they would contact some big building firms for financial assistance.

With no offers forthcoming, Beaver Scout leader Ross Lyall went to the housing development a few hundred yards from the hall. He said: “Our hall is a great space but can be really cold in the winter and expensive to heat, so we thought we would insulate the building, starting with the loft space.

“Our pleas to some other building firms in the area for financial support fell on deaf ears, but fortunately, we needn’t have worried. I eventually contacted Cruden Homes’ sales staff at their Wester Lea development in the village and told them of our plight. Not long after, I had a call to say that they would be happy to provide all the loft insulation free of charge and also arrange to deliver it to the hall. We were absolutely delighted to hear the news and we really can’t thank them enough. Their generosity has already saved us a lot of money and will continue to do so through reduced heating bills.”
