Could you offer a child a loving home in Midlothian?

A plea has gone out to help local children find a foster carer or adoptive parent.

Midlothian Council is holding a series of events around the county for those interested as part of National Adoption Week.

Councillor Catherine Johnstone, cabinet member for social care, said: “Being an adoptive parent or a foster carer is challenging but also hugely rewarding.

“We are committed to ensuring that, if a child or young person cannot live with their birth family, they are cared for, where possible, within their own communities. Where appropriate, we try to make sure that they can continue to attend the same nursery or school, to reduce the number of moves and changes in their lives.

“We are also recruiting for those who may be only able to offer only a few hours a week such as a tea visit or overnight to a child in need.”

Information events are taking place at: Danderhall Library, Wednesday, October 21, 9.30am-noon; Dalkeith Library, October 22, 4- 7pm; Penicuik Library, Friday, October 23, 10am-noon.
