More council staff will be left out of pocket as special payments are axed, it has emerged.
In last week’s Advertiser we reported that, from April 21, more than 100 specialist sports instructors will no longer receive a £4.53 an hour ‘market supplement payment’ on top of their hourly rate.
This leaves them with a pay drop of around a third, despite no consultation being held. Now it has been revealed that 42 bin men will also lose this additional payment.
The council has defended the deduction on the basis that the pay rate for bin men in Midlothian is still more than that of five out of Scotland’s 31 other local authorities.
