Newtongrange Star has taken delivery of a £1,000 defibrillator machine following recent heart attacks in the local football community.
Councillor Catherine Johnstone (SNP), who used money from her environmental and capital funds to pay for the vital piece of equipment, also got one for Gorebridge club Arniston Rangers.
Newtongrange Star’s president Stan Adams spoke of the recent tragedies, which included the passing of Arniston coach Neil Brownlie and Penicuik physio Jeff Gray.
He said: “Nobody can believe what has happened recently. You think these guys are fit then something like that happens. Hopefully we never have to use [the defibrillator] but it’s there.
“Myself, our physio, two coaches and youth team coaches are going to get trained up on how to use it, so there should always be someone around who knows how to operate it if needed.
“I’m delighted we have got it and I think every club should have one.”
