The Common Blue butterfly is one of those insects which draws wows of disbelief when people see it for the first time.
Rarely is such a vibrant colour of blue encountered in nature.
In early July, as I carried out a botany survey for a client, I was delighted by regular meetings with Common Blues, despite all the unseasonal wild and wet weather thrown at them over previous weeks.
Butterfly numbers in general are bound to be low this summer, though with a bit of luck, the autumn might buck that trend.
