Dalkeith couple Rose and Jim Hughes were married on August 18, 1956.

They have three sons – John, Colin and Patrick. Rose had various jobs – she was a spinner in a woollen mill, doctor’s receptionist, and also worked in a wool shop, Vanity Fair and Remnant Kings.

Jim had a few different jobs but in the last 25 years before he retired he worked at the Uniroyal Tyre Plant at Newbridge.

Before moving into Springfield Bank Care Home, Bonnyrigg, last December, Rose was a lady of many talents. She enjoyed singing, dressmaking and cross-stitch. She liked to watch Wimbledon on the television.
