Couple rescued from Midlothian hills

A rescue team was scrambled after two walkers became stranded on the Pentland Hills on Saturday evening.

Members of the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised at 5pm on December 4.

It is understood the couple, thought to be in their 20s, had set off on a walk from the Midlothian Snowsports Centre at Hillend to the top of Caerketton Hill.

As darkness fell, the walkers became disorientated and were soon exhausted from walking in waist-high snow.
