Action on rape in Midlothian

A sharp increase in the number of reported rapes in Midlothian will not be taken lightly, Lothian and Borders Police have pledged.

The force was responding to figures in the Advertiser, which revealed the number of reported cases in the county between April and November this year was 15 – up from seven during the same period last year.

A spokesman said a great deal of multi-agency work was ongoing to ensure victims had the confidence to report rape in the knowledge support would be given and there would be a professional investigation involving specially trained officers.
