Knife-wielding robbers have struck just days after a teenager suffered a serious sexual assault in the same neighbourhood.

Although entirely unrelated, the incidents have sparked calls for increased police patrols in the Woodburn area.

The sex attack took place in the early hours of Sunday, October 21, when an 18-year-old woman was assaulted in a wooded area off Lauder Road, in Kippielaw Walk.

The robbery took place between 7-7.30pm last Friday, when a 37-year-old man was approached by two men who brandished knives.

Dalkeith Councillor Margot Russell (Lab) said she planned to express her concerns over the incidents to police.

Anyone with any information on either crime should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
