Blue badge holders have called for improved disabled parking in Dalkeith town centre.

The strength of feeling came to light after Midlothian Council erected a warning sign at the Eskdaill Street car park, where disabled bays are large enough to accommodate more than one vehicle.

A council spokesman explained: “The new sign and refreshed road markings, which are required by law, make it clear there are only two spaces, which should tackle the issue of people parking illegally.

“The last thing we want is for anyone with mobility issues to have extra challenges getting in and out of their car.”

The move has sparked calls for better town centre provision for blue badge holders.
