Community councils in the Dalkeith area look set to join forces in a bid to progress plans for a community hub at Newmills Road.
Members of Dalkeith Community Council agreed to approach neighbouring Eskbank and Newbattle Community Council, to investigate potential for a joint meeting to discuss the issue.
Chairman Norman Brett said: “The status quo is pretty dire and something has to be done one way or another. It’s all housing, housing, housing, and the soul of the town has gone.
“Look at what’s happening in other towns and villages, where even village halls would put anything we have in Dalkeith to shame. There are no facilities for people here.”
As previously reported by the Advertiser, heavyweight politicians including Council leader Owen Thompson (SNP), MP David Hamilton (Lab) and MSP Colin Beattie (SNP), have joined a great number of local residents in backing our ‘Give us a Hub’ campaign, with council-owned land at the site of the former Dalkeith High School being established as the ‘people’s choice’ of location for a community complex.
