A MAJOR set of crossroads in Dalkeith is to be shut on Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10.
The four-way road traffic junction on the High Street, at the corner with the Harrow Hotel, is to close for two days on Saturday and Sunday, to allow Midlothian Council to carry out routine carriageway resurfacing works at Eskbank Road, Old Edinburgh Road, High Street and Buccleuch Street.
It will be closed temporarily to all vehicles from 5am on Saturday until 8pm on Sunday.
The diversion route for traffic will be via South Street, Lothian Street, Lothian Road, Abbey Road and Newbattle Road.
To maintain two-way free flowing traffic, parking and loading restrictions will apply at locations along the diversion route.
Car parks at North Wynd, Ramsay Croft and Midlothian House will remain open and will be signposted as part of diversion routes.
The current temporary closure at the High Street will remain in place throughout the above dates and times.
Bus stops in Old Edinburgh Road, Eskbank Road and Buccleuch Street will not be in use and several bus routes will be diverted. Particularly affected will be Eskbank, which will lose the 3/3A/N3 and 328 services for two days. Alternative daytime services are available from Eskbank, but passengers should allow extra time to change services at Dalkeith.
At the same time, additional works to widen the pavements at this junction will also be carried out. The work is part of the £1.2 million Dalkeith Town Centre Improvement project, due to be completed on July 16.
