Work has started on a new Morrisons supermarket for Dalkeith, as the company looks forward to opening its first store in the town.
Robertson Group has won the contract to deliver the store, which is planned to open in Spring next year and will create in the region of 200 local jobs.
The supermarket chain was granted full planning permission earlier this year to build a new 41,000 sq ft store.
It will include Morrisons ‘Fresh Market’ offering – butcher, baker, fishmonger and fresh food counters, as well as a customer cafe on the former bus depot site at Eskbank Road.
Speaking on behalf of Morrisons, development executive Richard Bakes, said: “We are delighted to have secured Robertson Group to help us bring Morrisons Fresh Format to Dalkeith.
“They are a great company with an excellent track record and we look forward to serving the residents of Dalkeith next year.”
