AN English and Guidance teacher at Dalkeith High has pocketed £500 as the winner of a short story contest.

Douglas Bruton plans to put his winnings from the 2011 A Vogel Dormeasan Short Story Competition towards a new computer after recently collecting his prize at Jan de Vries Diet & Health Centre in Edinburgh.

Taking inspiration from “all of life”, the teacher has entered many writing competitions in the past, and has just completed his first novel, which he hopes will get published soon.
