Event organisers are hoping a new Dalkeith Country Fair will attract visitors to Midlothian in their droves next month. Following the success of the 10th Galloway Country Fair at Drumlanrig Castle in August, Buccleuch Group has announced a new event, on the Dalkeith Palace fields over the weekend of April 7 and 8.
Highlights will include main ring displays such as terrier racing and medieval jousting by Knights Of The North Falconry – a horse stunt troupe which performs displays using Friesian and Andalucian horses. The famous Buccleuch Hounds will also be given a showing in the main ring, while other attractions include a fun fair, archery and a traditional ‘slow village’ boasting displays of wood turning, pottery and much more. The Strathleven Artisans will be attending the event, offering children the chance to try on costumes and learn about the Scottish Wars of Independence and the Jacobite rebellion.
The fair will also welcome the Scottish Association of Country Sports (SACS), offering visitors the chance to experience clay shooting and air rifle target shooting.
