A Podiatry student from Danderhall has been selected as an official torch bearer for the Olympic Games.
Currently in the second year of his studies at Queen Margaret University, Toby Harris (20) is to be a ‘Coca-cola future flame’ and will carry the Olympic flame for 300 meters on June 14 through the village of Walkerburn in the Scottish Borders.
Toby was nominated for the position by his parents Lee and Simon Harris, also from Danderhall, and who, like Toby, are members of the Edinburgh Athletics’ Club.
Toby is a hurdler for the Scottish National Athletics Squad. He was also a member of the National Diving Squad and regularly represented Scotland in both senior and junior national competitions.
However, his time as a competitive diver came to a halt with the closure, a few years ago, of the Commonwealth Pool where he trained.
