Newbattle Abbey College is to unveil its historic treasures to the public.
Weekly tours will provide an enchanting insight to the college building’s past, and give visitors a chance to learn about its link to Mary Queen of Scots, The Declaration of Arbroath and more.
The tours will run from August 28, every Tuesday evening starting at 7.30pm. They will aim to share the college’s stories dating back to the 12th century, stretching as far back as 1140 when the site was a Cistercian abbey, through the 16th century when Newbattle was the Kerr family seat until the early 20th century when it first became an adult education college. All the tour guides are local volunteers with a passion for the history of the college.
Jim Church has been taking part in the project for more than a year. He said: “Newbattle Abbey College really is a hidden gem there’s so much history.”
