Dalkeith couple James and Ella Jones have celebrated their diamond wedding.

James (81), and Ella (80) met at The Corn Exchange in Dalkeith where James’s parents demonstrated ballroom dancing in 1948.

At that time, while he and Ella were courting, James would often walk home to Edinburgh, having missed the last bus.

The sweethearts, who were married at St Nicholas Church Dalkeith, on March 7, 1952, have one daughter. They currently live in Wilson Avenue.

Ella was born and grew up in Dalkeith. Her father was a baker with Bells and her mother ran Scott’s newsagents on White Hart Street.
