A Gorebridge couple have celebrated 60 years of married life, with a big family get-together at one of their old workplaces.
Margaret (79) and Les Graham (81) were married on June 13, 1953, and were thrown a surprise party by their family to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary at the National Mining Museum, where Les used to work.
Margaret was delighted to see family and friends.
She said: “It was a good day. It was arranged by my daughters. There were over a hundred people there.
“We have lots of friends and a big family so it was nice to get them all together.
“We thought we were going to the museum for lunch, so we were pretty shocked when we got there. But it was nice.”
Margaret revealed what she believes is the secret to a long and happy marriage.
She said: “You have to give and take I guess.
“And having a good family around you certainly helps.
“We have three children and what feels like hundreds of grandchildren!”
The couple’s three children are Gary (58), Lynne (53), Pauline (50). They also have nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
“They were all there to celebrate,” added Margaret.
