A PODGY pooch is hoping to shed pounds with the PDSA’s Pet Fit Club.

Dalkeith Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Otiss is competing against 17 cats, dogs and rabbits in the sponsored six-month diet.

The five-year-old pet was put forward for the diet and fitness challenge by owner Helen Melrose (64), who adopted Ottis from a friend 18 months ago.

Ottis was already overweight when he moved into Cowden Grove with his new owner, but has continued to pile on the pounds – by stealing food from the bin and from Helen’s grandchildren.

Helen, a retired business manager, said Ottis was now seven weeks into the Pet Fit Club regime and although there was no change on the scales, he had lost centimetres in size.
