The search is on to find a Midlothian hero to attend the official opening of the Scottish Parliament on Saturday, July 2.
There isn’t much time to make nominations - the deadline is Wednesday, June 15.
Midlothian North MSP Colin Beattie (SNP) said: “I would like to invite members of the public to nominate a ‘Local Hero’.
“This must be someone who inspires others or be someone who works in the community largely without recognition.”
The lucky individual will attend the opening Ceremony for the fifth session of the Scottish Parliament.
The day starts with the Crown of Scotland being paraded down the Royal Mile to the Scottish Parliament. In the Debating Chamber, the Queen will address the newly-elected members of the Scottish Parliament and guests.
Following the address, there will be a Riding down the Royal Mile – marking the centuries old Scottish tradition – which will involve up to 2000 people from every constituency and every region of Scotland.
In the afternoon the Scottish Parliament will open its doors to guests and members of the public for an open afternoon. With taster sessions, activities, and musical performances to showcase the best of Scottish talent.
Mr Beattie added: “The ‘Local Hero’ is invited to take part in this major event in recognition of the importance of the contribution they have made to the lives of other people.
“The nomination can simply be a statement of the work done by that individual and the effect on people around them. Anyone can put forward a name – but only one name will be chosen. That will be the tough part.”
Nominations can be emailed to Mr Beattie at firstname.lastname@example.org or posted him at 164 High Street, Dalkeith EH22 1AY.
