Drain covers stolen

Police are investigating the theft of 20 metal drain covers from locations across Midlothian.

The thefts took place sometime between the early hours of Thursday, June 21, and the following afternoon.

Nine cast iron roadside covers were stolen from The Wisp, six were taken from Old Craighall Road, Millerhill, three from Myrtle Crescent in Bilston and one from Pentland Road in Loanhead. A drain cover was also taken from Millerhill Road in Millerhill.

The cost of replacing the stolen items is estimated at around £8000, and police are appealing for any information that can lead to their recovery.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “We are appealing for any information that can help us identify whoever is responsible for these thefts.

“Anyone who was in any of the areas concerned last Thursday and Friday, who noticed any suspicious roadside activity, should contact police.

“Likewise, any dealers who have been offered the drain covers for sale, or anyone with any other information that can assist our enquiries, should also get in touch.”
