A musician with 45 years experience has welcomed the move to phase out music tuition charges for Midlothian school-children.
Sophie Bancroft (49), a pianist, guitarist and member of the Pathhead Music Collective, spoke out after a deal was struck between Midlothian’s SNP/Ind coalition and Councillor Ian Baxter (Green) that will save parents more than £300,000 by phasing out charges over a two-year period.
She said: “I very much welcome this – it’s a fantastic change. It’s very unfair when kids cannot access music. There are a huge amount of benefits to learning an instrument.”
