The Duke of York has met with the families of two Penicuik-based soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan earlier this year.

The Duke, who is Royal Colonel of The Royal Highland Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion The Regiment of Scotland (2 SCOTS), took the opportunity to meet with families at their Welfare Centre near Glencorse Barracks, last week.

In a private visit, the Duke met with family members of Corporal William Savage and Fusilier Samuel Flint who were killed while on routine patrol in Afghanistan in April.

He held a meeting with Fusilier Flint’s brother, Fusilier David Broughton, and Cpl Savage’s wife, Lyndsey, who gave birth to the couple’s first child, Connor, last month.
