Easthouses man Brian Tannerhill MBE (pictured above centre in white polo shirt) came agonisingly close to being in the money recently.

Competing in the finals of the Redtooth Poker tournament in the World’s capital of gambling Las Vegas, Brian (66), finished 21st out of the original 30,000 entries.
He said: “What a wonderful experience, great people and a free holiday into the bargain. How lucky could you ask to be? Another memory for the rocking chair. This retirement lark is a great thing.

“I went out ‘on the bubble’ which means I was 21st and all the money prizes started from 20 down. Well that’s the way life is sometimes but I wouldn’t have wished it on anyone.”
