Check mates as young as five have been mastering the art of chess at Stobhill Primary School.
Learning assistant Reuben Fox (54) has been stretching pupils’ thinking skills at a lunch-time chess club every Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reuben, who rediscovered a love for chess after taking up his post at Stobhill two years ago, told the Advertiser: “There is no doubt that playing chess helps pupils in thinking skills and problem solving, which is an important part of the Curriculum for Excellence. Pupils need to be challenged and chess is an extremely effective means of supplying that need.”
