Dalkeith Country Park is spreading some festive spirit around the town by donating a number of Christmas trees to both Lawfield Primary School and Dalkeith Community Campus.

MSP Colin Beattie was joined by Duncan Mackison, chief operations officer for Buccleuch and a number of school children from Lawfield at the country park to hand-pick five special trees which will be delivered to the school.

Staff at the park helped Mr Beattie and the school children pick their trees from its stock of real Nordmann Fir trees, which are also on sale from its Christmas tree pop-up shop.

Duncan Mackison said: “At this time of year we wanted to spread a little festive spirit and donate some trees to our local community.

“It was a pleasure to welcome our local MSP Colin Beattie and Councillor Lisa Beattie to the park and show them around our new Restoration Yard before helping the school children pick their Christmas trees. We hope it helps spread some Christmas cheer through Dalkeith this year.”

Lawfield headteacher Zena Richardson said: “We are delighted Dalkeith Country Park has gifted these beautiful trees to us. It was a real treat for our house captains to come out the park and hand-pick the trees alongside our MSP and councillor. They are now looking forward to decorating them all.

“We are sure everyone in our school community will gain much enjoyment from seeing them. They are a lovely focal point for our school this Christmas and have added extra sparkle to our school term.”

Helen Allan, Facilities Manager from Dalkeith Community Campus, who will also be in receipt of a 7ft fir, added: “Our Christmas tree is a beautiful beacon of the festive season and will shine brightly in the main reception of our campus for all to see.

“We appreciate the support of local businesses like Dalkeith Country Park and it will certainly add some seasonal sparkle this festive season.”

Midlothian North MSP Colin Beattie said: “My many thanks go to Dalkeith Country Park for donating these trees. It’s a fantastic gesture and I’m sure everyone at Lawfield Primary School and Dalkeith Community Campus will be delighted.

“Christmas is a time of giving, and it’s great to see Dalkeith Country Park getting into the spirit of the season!”
