Students at Newbattle Abbey College have been honoured at an annual prizegiving ceremony.
The event recognised the sacrifices and commitments made by the students who have chosen to return to study – either to secure a place at university, increase their employability or gain new knowledge and skills later in life.
Thirty-four students received certificates after successfully completing the year-long Arts and Humanities Award – a broad ranging course covering everything from politics to creative writing.
College Principal Ann Southwood said: “For many of the students, the awards ceremony is an emotional day. Most of our students choose to live at the college throughout the year, leaving their family and friends to give 100 per cent to their studies. The annual prizegiving marks a symbolic end to the 12 months of hard work.”
