Bonnyrigg Green Councillor Ian Baxter has welcomed a Scottish Parliament report that paves the way for councils and communities to get greater benefits from renewable energy.
Councillor Baxter said: “Midlothian needs to do more to support the national energy targets.
“This report identifies a number of areas where the council can act.
“I will be pressing the council to respond positively to this report and give communities the chance to benefit from the opportunities to control their own energy and contribute to combating climate change.”
The report, published by the Energy, Enterprise & Tourism Committee, says the government’s target for Scotland to meet all of its energy demand from renewables by 2020 can be achieved, and recommends that local authorities must ensure their plans are consistent with the national renewable energy targets.
