Learning centres to support families from before a child is born until they go on to primary school are to be set up in Midlothian.
The council has agreed to open three new family learning centres to serve the areas of Woodburn and central Dalkeith, Mayfield and Easthouses and Gorebridge.
The Scottish Government is providing a total of £2.3 million capital funding to Midlothian over the next two years for early learning and childcare for two, three and four-year-olds and this will be used to improve existing provisions and meet the majority of the costs of the family learning centres.
