The family of a 27-year-old man killed in a road accident on the A6094 near Howgate on June 6 have paid tribute to him.

William Bertram, known as “Wink”, was born and raised at Shiphorns, Eddleston.

He attended Eddleston Primary and Peebles High School.

Mr Bertram worked for Graham J. Irvine for six years and then for Akela for the last year.

He was traveling to his work at Akela when the accident happened.

A family member said: “William was a hard working, fun loving and very well-liked guy who will be sorely missed.

“We appreciate everyone’s condolences and would ask the media to leave us alone to grieve at this very sad time.”

Police are appealing for witnesses after the accident. Mr Bertram’s Honda Civic was discovered by another motorist in a wooded area next to the westbound carriageway around 7.30am.

Sergeant Vincent Fisher said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who saw the silver Honda Civic car in the vicinity of the accident or who can otherwise assist us with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
