Councillors knocked back plans to turn an empty shop into a fast food takeaway at last week’s planning committee meeting.

The plans for the former butchers shop on Penicuik High Street would have made it the fourth hot food takeaway in the town centre.

Councillor Derek Rosie (SNP) said: “It’s important that we use our empty buildings to attract businesses to the town centre. If this property becomes a take away I can’t see it helping.I encourage the business steering group to take steps forward to make sure we get the right applicants for these premises.”
