Fears for Midlothian landscape

SOUTHERN Scotland’s “finest view” is in danger of being ruined by windfarms, an academic claims.

Dr Brian Moffat believes plans for a new windfarm on Fala Moor should not be permitted for ecological and scenic reasons.

RidgeWind Ltd wants to develop nine 115m turbines in Midlothian, with a further seven across the boundary in the Scottish Borders.

Having investigated the medieval hospital site at Soutra Isle since 1986, Dr Moffat has watched with mounting horror as turbine towers have proliferated around his workings.

As a resident of Fala Village, he believes that people travelling north into Midlothian deserve to be greeted by rolling landscape in its natural state, free of man-made structures.
