The long-awaited Loanhead relief road could be delayed after Transport Scotland raised objections.
Planning consent was granted in February but the roads agency has only now voiced its concerns.
Loanhead and District Community Council is to seek a meeting with Transport Scotland and Midlothian councillor Owen Thompson (SNP) has raised the issue with the Scottish Government.
Councillor Thompson told the community council: “Transport Scotland are being absolutely unreasonable. Their objection is saying the relief road will add traffic to the junction [the roundabout at McDonald’s]. It is nonsense and I have written to the Minister to try and get an intervention.”
