The developer behind the multi-million pound film studio complex at Straiton is calling on the Scottish Government to consider its plans.

PSL Land Ltd lodged a planning application in principle for a mixed use development comprising of a film and tv studio including backlot complex, hotel, gas and heat power plant/energy centre, film school and student accommodation, and studio tour building.

The application, for a site between IKEA and Damhead, was lodged on May 2. Midlothian Council had failed to make a decision within the statutory 16 weeks.

Ongoing discussions between the developer and council planning officers reveal that the application may not be considered until March next year as the proposals mark a departure from the Local Plan as part of the film studio complex could be on Green Belt.
