Fitness challenge for Midlothian stores!

It is being dubbed as a Battle of the Superstores!

Teams from four of the county’s biggest stores are competing against each other in a series of army challenges.

The military fitness mornings are the brainchild of Corporal Paul Pollard, a PT instructor with the Army Development and Selection Centre at Glencorse Barracks.

Yesterday (Sunday), employees from Sainsbury’s squared up against counterparts from Tesco’s and then today (Monday), IKEA colleagues took on newcomers Asda.

Cpl Pollard, a member of the 1st Battalion, the Duke of Lancaster Regiment, explained: “What we will be doing at the fitness morning is circuits and a bit of self defence, and at the end we will be doing a gun run, where teams take bits of equipment from one area to another. The reason we are doing it is for a bit of a battle against each other.”

Cpl Pollard is a member of Penicuik Harriers and by taking part in the fitness mornings, the stores have pledged to donate items, such as water and foodstuffs, for the club’s 10k race in May.
