King’s Park in Dalkeith has won the Green Flag for 2014, with the other three parks – Roslin Glen, Vogrie and Springfield Mill – also retaining their status.

The Green Flag Award is the benchmark for a quality green space, and is administered in Scotland by Keep Scotland Beautiful, the independent environmental charity.

Parks are assessed by volunteer judges who have a background in parks management, conservation or ecology.

They judge against criteria such as whether the park or green space is welcoming, healthy, safe and secure, and clean and well-maintained.
