A five-a-side football centre has taken responsibility after safety concerns were raised about parking on the streets of an industrial estate.
Newtongrange Community Council last week discussed the amount of customers of the new Ryze trampoline centre and Saltire Soccer Centre parking their cars on Crawlees Road through Mayfield Industrial Estate, which is also home to an ambulance station.
However, Craig Meikle of Saltire Soccer Centre explained the parking problem.
He said: “It’s a short-term issue that we have at this time of year. We have a number of winter kids camps and a Bonnyrigg Rose kids tournament. “There is no double yellow lines there so it’s not illegal. It’s not ideal though. But if people want to park on the main road they are not breaking any laws. There is nothing we can do to stop them.
“I have spoken to the council and they are happy that it runs for only two more weekends. It’s just the same issue we had at this time last year.”
A council spokesman said: “We understand the events which led to additional parking will run for another two weeks on Saturday mornings. However if the additional parking was to be the norm rather than the exception, we would have to consider some form of additional control measures – such as yellow lines - which ultimately would require police enforcement.”
