The Gorebridge community of Birkenside will hold its annual fun day on Sunday between 1pm and 4pm at Birkenside Park.

As usual all the events and rides are provided free of charge and this year there will be a new water zorbs ride as well as the old favourites, Laser Quest, bungee trampolines, quad bikes and pony rides.

Councillor Jim Muirhead (Lab), the chairman of the Birkenside Fun Day Committee, is happy with the progression of the event, which began in 2002.

He said: “Every year we have managed to raise just a bit more cash and have been able to hire in better equipment. All the rides are free of charge thanks to the hard work of the volunteers and the kind donations from organisations and individuals.”

Borthwick Pipe Band will be there, with more free treats including the Tricky Ricky Magic Show and prize bingo.

Rounding off the day are the popular fun races, with gold, silver and bronze medals for the winners.
