Future of Bonnyrigg Leisure Centre building unclear

Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council is seeking clarity on the future of the vacant Bonnyrigg Leisure Centre building.

In a bid to establish the extent of demolition plans, and if there is potential for it to be shared, the group plans to invite all three local councillors to attend a public meeting.

The move was agreed at its monthly meeting after Louise Gough, chairman of Bright Sparks, a special needs playgroup which has been handed permission to occupy the premises by Midlothian Council, refused to offer up part of the building for use by another group.

Elected members handed over the threatened building to Bright Sparks in June last year, ignoring officer advice that the Bonnyrigg Centre Trust group be awarded ‘preferred bidder’ status.
