Girlguiding Midlothian celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday

Thanks to the help of the Lord Lieutenant of Midlothian, Girlguiding Midlothian celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday by lighting a beacon on Lawhead Hill, just above Lowrie’s Den, near Penicuik.

Volunteers kept warm beforehand by singing campfire songs. A message from the Prince of Wales was read out by the Assistant County Commissioner and the beacon was lit at 8.30pm.

Midlothian South division commissioner Kathryn Topham said: “We had a fantastic view of Midlothian at sunset and caught a glimpse of the beacon on the top of Scald Law. We received text messages from friends down in Penicuik to say they could see us!”
